It's an Unreasonable Game-Like Different World! - Gokurakuten Fukura 3

The path was clearly distinguishable as such.

Though not paved, it was flat and free of obstacles. What was characteristic were the shining stones embedded in the ground at regular intervals.

This path, marked by these glowing stones, was also displayed in gray on the smartphone’s map. It was about three meters wide and extended east to west, albeit with some bends.

“The monsters don’t approach this path, do they?”

The fairies had mentioned this, but they might be monsters themselves, and their words might not be trustworthy.

However, Fukura decided to trust the fairies. From their wording, it seemed that while not absolutely safe, the path was somewhat safer.

Having reached the path, Fukura sat down on the ground and stretched her legs out. Believing it to be safe, she decided to take a break.

“First things first, the smartphone.”

Since she needed to be alert for enemy approaches using the map while moving, there was no time to check other functions. Thinking it best to do so now, Fukura began to examine the smartphone.

She first checked the smartphone as a whole.

It was about 150mm in length and 70mm in width. Most of its surface was an LCD panel, with a front camera at the top. The back had an out-camera and the Kyuhoumi Academy logo engraved. On the side were the power and volume buttons.

So far, it seemed like a typical smartphone, but it had some unusual features. There were no connectors of any kind. There was no earphone jack or USB port, so it must connect to external devices wirelessly.

Looking at the screen, it also appeared at first glance to be a typical smartphone.

There was a status bar at the top of the screen, including an antenna mark. The signal was good, meaning it was connected to some network. Unusually, there was no battery life display.

At the very top of the home screen was a clock widget, showing the time as 3:32 PM. The entrance ceremony had ended around 10:30 AM, so something odd was going on. She had fought monsters and talked to fairies, but that couldn’t have taken several hours. However, if it was receiving a signal, the clock might be automatically adjusted.

Curious, Fukura tapped on the clock.

There were two registered cities: Tokyo and Resource Area 35. The time displayed on the home screen was for Resource Area 35.

"Area?"

The clock for Tokyo showed April 8th, 10:32 AM. Judging by the position of the sun, the time for Resource Area 35 seemed more accurate. However, if this was another world, the position of the sun might not be reliable.

Fukura looked at the smartphone screen again.

At the top of the home screen was the clock widget. Below it were icons for a student ID, status, equipment, skills, and map.

At the bottom dock were icons for phone, messenger, and camera.

Since she had already confirmed that phone and messenger couldn't be used for communication, she launched the camera.

The camera had standard photography functions. It could take still pictures and videos and play them back. She thought there might be something recorded in the album, but it was empty.

Fukura then opened the student ID app on the home screen.

[Student ID]

Student Number: FC7A0585

Kyuhoumi Academy High School

The screen imitated a student ID, displaying a face photo and personal information.

It wasn't surprising to find an app for a digital student ID at Kyuhoumi Academy, but Fukura felt something off about some of the information displayed.

"Mining Department?"

She was supposed to have enrolled in the general course, and there wasn't supposed to be a Mining Department in the first place.

Apart from the department, nothing else seemed amiss, and there wasn't any other new information. Fukura then launched the status app.

[Status]

Level: 4

Job: Scavenger

      : Lazy King

HP: 10/40

MP: 10/40

Physique: 1

Beauty: 1

Intelligence: 1

Perception: 1

Magic: 1

Luck: 30

Achievements

  • Irregular Victory: "Defeated an enemy before status setting"

"Not exactly jobs with a good image."

Scavenger sounds like someone rummaging through carrion, and Lazy King directly translates to something like a king of laziness. Either way, they don't sound particularly reputable.

It was a bit puzzling that her level was 4 and she had two jobs, but since she didn’t understand the specifics, pondering over it would be pointless. Fukura then checked the equipment app.

[Equipment]

Kyuhoumi Academy Uniform (Female)

"I wonder why undergarments and shoes aren't considered equipment?"

For some reason, only the uniform was classified as equipment.

With nothing else to learn, she next launched the skill app.

[Skills]

Skill Points: 3

Intelligence Skill

  • Common Language Understanding

Perception Skill

  • Dynamic Sensory

Luck Skill

  • Experience Points Up

Scavenger Skill

  • Container Bonus

Lazy King

  • Strange Fate

The ability to converse with fairies might be due to the Common Language Understanding skill.

However, it was questionable whether something shown on a smartphone app could have real-world effects. Curious, Fukura tapped on the skill names for more details.

  • Common Language Understanding Enables reading, writing, and conversing in the common language. The common language is an artificial language learned by almost all ethnicities and races. It has been around for a long time, and communication should not be a problem as long as one can use this language.

  • Dynamic Sensory Displays moving objects on the map. The detection range is a radius of [10] meters.

  • Experience Points Up When gaining experience points, there's a chance for a bonus to occur.

  • Container Bonus Increases the amount of items obtained from uncertain containers.

  • Strange Fate Increases the probability of encountering events. The higher the Luck value, the more likely one is to encounter rare events, but this doesn't always result in a positive outcome.

Discovering fairies might have been due to the Dynamic Sensory skill. This suggests that the skills do have real-world effects, but more definitive information was desired.

"All these are hard to verify..."

Another point of interest was the skill points. Curious, Fukura tapped on the skill points, and a skill acquisition screen appeared.

The system seemed to be a skill tree, with roots extending from the base to various categories. Unavailable skills were marked with a question mark, and currently, the following three were available for acquisition:

Scavenger Skill

  • Scavenger Pocket A storage for junk category items. Can store up to a total value of 10,000 Rills.

Luck Skill

  • Bloody Party When a critical hit occurs, there is a chance for an explosion to happen.

Lazy King Skill

  • Item Auto Collection Automatically stores items with priority ownership lying around in storage. The collection range is a radius of [1] meter.

"Let's try acquiring them."

While it might be prudent to be cautious in selecting skills, some things can only be understood by using them. Since all the currently available skills could be acquired for 1 point each, Fukura decided to obtain all three.

"A Scavenger Pocket has been linked to the right hip pocket of the Kyuhoumi Academy Uniform (Female). To change this, please go to the skill settings."

A pop-up message had appeared.

"The right pocket?"

Fukura put her hand into the right hip pocket and immediately noticed something unusual. The pocket seemed bottomless, allowing her hand to go in indefinitely. There wasn’t a hole through which her hand was protruding; rather, it seemed as though her hand had entered some mysterious space.

"Regardless of whether this is another world or not, it's certain that skills can cause supernatural phenomena."

Fukura picked up a stone from the ground and put it in the pocket. It went in, but the pocket didn't bulge. She continued to add stones, and even after putting in more than ten, there was no visible change.

By reaching into the pocket, she could feel the multiple stones, allowing her to choose and pull out a specific one by touch.

She tried to put her wristwatch in, but it wouldn’t go past the pocket's opening. It seemed that only junk could be stored.

"For now, having a pocket that can hold many stones is convenient."

For the time being, it seemed the pocket would only serve as a stone holder.

Having examined all the skills, she finally launched the map app. She had been using it casually, but now she wanted to look at it more closely.

The map showed the area she had passed through. Moving objects were displayed as red dots. Pinching allowed for zooming in and out. Compass symbols indicated the directions. The scale ratio made it possible to estimate distances. The orientation of the smartphone was shown as an arrow.

These seemed to be the main functions of the map.

When she zoomed out on the map to increase the display range, she noticed a star mark to the east, about 150 kilometers from her location.

She scrolled through the map to see if there was anything else, but found nothing.

"Thinking straightforwardly, it should be the destination?"

However, it wasn't a distance she could easily reach, and what might happen along the way was completely unknown. For now, believing there was a populated area, heading west seemed the best option.

Having checked all the functions of the smartphone, Fukura stood up and began walking westward.
