My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! Volume 14 Chapter 9

CHAPTER 9

That Means If We Torture Hanakawa To The Brink of Death, The Kizuna Counter Will Activate!

"Eh? So, Lord Lute, were you playing the role of someone who'd, when I'm in a pinch, say, 'I'll be the one to kill you!' and come to help me?"
"Seriously, I just want to go home..."

Lute looked genuinely annoyed.
Lute was a follower of the demon god.
They had met at a tower in a canyon, and he was dragged along to help defeat Yogiri.
In the end, he was supposed to have been killed by the revived sister of the demon god in the underground of the royal capital.
In this reset world, the demon god Albagarma shouldn't exist, but it seemed that Lute, who wasn't killed by Yogiri, did exist.

"Can I go home if I do something about that guy?"
"Eh? Don't you want to defeat Takatou Yogiri or something?"
"Even Mana-sama couldn't win against him, so what can I do?"

Hanakawa thought that if they took Lute with them as a companion, he would be useful, but Lute seemed to have given up completely.

"Understood! For now, as long as we can survive this situation, it's okay! However, he can eat any attack and spit it out, so can you do something about that?"
"I see. How about this, then?"

Lute crouched down and placed his palm on the ground. The earth shook, and Daniel's figure disappeared.
There was a crack in the ground. A large fissure extended from Lute's hand to where Daniel had been.

"What is this?"
"It's like a pitfall. If we send him somewhere, it won't matter if he eats attacks or not. See you later."

Having finished his business, Lute's figure vanished.

"No, no, no! This doesn't count as a victory!"

To win, they needed to annihilate their opponent.
But with this, they couldn't tell if Daniel had died or not.
Hanakawa ran to where Daniel had been. When he looked down, the fissure was so deep that its bottom couldn't be seen. Naturally, Daniel's figure was nowhere in sight.

"We're above the clouds here, right? Isn't it possible he just fell down?"

Carol, who had come to his side, asked.

"In that case, would the match be settled? I don't recall there being any ring-out rules."
"Even if we escaped the pinch, it's meaningless like this, isn't it?"
"What can I do when you say that?! Lord Lute came out of nowhere and did it on his own!"
"But if he fell and can't come back, wouldn't that effectively make it our victory? Why not inquire about that?"

Ryoko's suggestion was reasonable.
The sage should be watching this battle. He had said that whether it was interesting or not was everything, so he wouldn't want a situation with such an ambiguous outcome. If they called out, there might be a response.

"That's true. Let's just try calling out for now—"

Just as he was about to call out to the sky, something flew out of the fissure with incredible force.
Naturally, what fell was Daniel. The giant multiheaded cat.

"Well... the fissure isn't that wide, so it might be possible he climbed back up... Lord Lute?"

He tried calling out, but Lute did not appear. The criteria for a pinch were unclear. Maybe he wouldn't come to help unless they were in more mortal danger.

"That means if we torture Hanakawa to the brink of death, the Kizuna Counter will activate!"
"I'd like you to stop gleaming with excitement as if you've come up with a great idea!"
"This is no time for joking around. He seems to have powered up somehow."

Perhaps out of anger, Daniel's fur was bristling all over his body.
Numerous heads had sprouted all over his body, and they were all staring intently at Hanakawa and the others.

"Soon, I guess."

Carol muttered quietly.
Then, Daniel suddenly burst.

"What just happened?!"
"It's the nullification ability!"
"Eh, isn't that only activated when touched?"
"I also have the ability to create nullification items, like a seal tool. It's a very annoying and inconvenient item that makes abilities unusable after a while of holding it!"

At the spot where the giant cat had been, four children were lying down.
If it only nullified their abilities, there shouldn't have been any damage. However, perhaps due to the backlash from their fusion transformation, the four children seemed unable to move properly.

"But when did you give them such an item?"
"I threw a shuriken at them at the beginning, right? Since it was before the fusion, it couldn't be eaten, and it seemed to have successfully entered their bodies during the fusion!"
"No... was that just a coincidence that it worked?"
"So, what will you do? Right now, slaughtering them all would be like taking candy from a baby."
"To attack defenseless opponents like that..."

Hanakawa took a rope out of his item box and tied up Daniel and the others.
Carol was holding one end of the rope. The nullification ability was effective even through the rope.

"Since I seem to be the leader, I'll do the talking. I have a feeling that if Hanakawa-kun talks, he'll just provoke them unnecessarily and the conversation won't progress."

As the conversation developed, it could potentially lead to a terrible situation. Hanakawa decided to let Ryoko handle it honestly.
Daniel looked at Ryoko. It seemed he was able to talk now.

"Admit your defeat. If you don't, we'll kill you."
"That's straight to the point!"
"There's no other choice. We don't have any options."
"Well... there are no specific conditions to negotiate..."

They couldn't leave this channel unless the outcome was decided, and after the conclusion, they couldn't interfere with each other. There probably wasn't any other way.

"Fine... we lost."

'Ninomiya Ryoko WIN!'

Those words floated up in the sky.

"You won. I'm sure you'll defeat Yogiri Takatou. And save Mireille nee-chan..."

Before Daniel could finish his words, he and his group disappeared.
As the surroundings turned into an indoor space, it seemed Hanakawa and the others had been moved.

"I see? So, if we win, we're moved to a waiting room?"
"Seems like it."

Although it was a small room, it looked like they could catch their breath.

  *****

Having defeated Yurina Tanaka, Tomochika and her team were back in the antechamber area. Apparently, they would wait here between rounds.
Thirty-two parties could advance to the second round, so it would still take some time for the first round to end.

"I thought I saw Hanakawa just now."

Yogiri, sitting on the sofa across from her, spoke to Tomochika.

"On the opposite side, right? I didn't see him."

Tomochika and Yogiri were back-to-back, waiting for their enemies. Tomochika had seen Yuuriina approach from her side, but she hadn't confirmed the person Yogiri said he saw.

"I wonder what he's here for. I don't think he's here to kill me, though."
"He knows he has no chance of winning, right?"

Based on Hanakawa's previous actions, they couldn't rule out that he had gained some power or help and was now overconfident.

"What should we do?"
"Depends on the situation."
"Right."

If he just wanted to talk, that would be fine. However, if he had ill intentions, they would have no choice but to kill him if necessary. Tomochika had come to terms with that possibility.
As they made tea and ate snacks, words appeared in the air.

'Last Boss Quest, Final Stage, Second Round Begins!'

"Shall we go?"

Yogiri slowly headed towards the exit, with Tomochika following behind.
When they stepped through the exit, the surroundings were dimly lit.
Scattered candles illuminated countless bones placed haphazardly. It seemed like they were in a crypt or an underground tomb.

"What should we do? Shout again?"
"The atmosphere suggests it might be underground. If nobody's here, no matter how loudly we shout, it might not reach anyone."
"Then should we move? This place is kind of creepy."
"It's true that we should get out of here."

To proceed to the next round, they first had to encounter their enemies. It was uncertain if their foes would come to such a place if they just idled around.
Yogiri picked up a skull with a candle on it.

"Wow. I can't believe you can touch that!"

Tomochika didn't intend to say that she was reckless, so she felt a sense of discomfort at the thought of touching it.

"I think these objects were prepared for the game, so they're not real."
"We can't hold the candle directly, so I guess there's no choice."

Yogiri took the lead and moved forward.
What was illuminated by the faint light was a wall made of human bones.

"What's with this place?! Such bad taste!"
"Maybe it's just for atmosphere. I heard catacombs are like this too."
'If it's the Paris Catacombs, I think it's about two kilometers long.'
"Ugh..."

For now, they were going straight ahead, but there seemed to be more distance to cover.
There were no forks in the path, so they couldn't get lost, but visibility was poor due to the darkness.
Just as they started to worry if there was an exit ahead, they saw a staircase at the end. They climbed the stairs and reached the upper floor. Light was coming through the windows, so it seemed to be above ground.
When they opened the door that looked like an exit, they found themselves in a park-like area. It wasn't a very large park, and there were buildings that looked like houses around it.

"It feels like a park in a residential area. I don't see any people."

Tomochika also looked around, but there was no sign of people. To begin with, it was questionable whether there were residents in the game field of the underground quest.

"Mokomoko-san, can you check the situation from the sky?"
'Yes!'

Mokomoko flew up into the air and began to spin around.

"Our ancestor is kind of a goof, huh..."
"I never paid attention to Mokomoko-san's scouting methods, but it seems like that's how it's done."

After spinning for a while, Mokomoko came back down.

'A person appeared in the town. It's to the north. I don't know who it is, but they didn't seem to notice us yet.'
"It doesn't matter if they notice us. We're not planning a surprise attack."
"Then, let's shout."

Yogiri then distanced himself from Tomochika and covered his ears.

"Takatou Yogiri is here!"

She shouted again. This time, Yogiri was prepared, so there shouldn't be any problems.
It was as loud as they could manage, so there was no way it wouldn't be noticed.
After a while, a girl appeared from the shadows of the buildings.

"Akino-san!?"

It was their classmate, Akino Sora.
