My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a Chance Against Me! Volume 14 Chapter 15

 CHAPTER 15

This Is One Of Those Situations Where A Tournament Arc Or Exam Arc Suddenly Interrupts And Things Get Brushed Aside!

Although Mitsuki was beginning to find things amusing, he also thought that perhaps now was the opportune time to call it quits.
Unexpected happenings could indeed be interesting, but once things started getting too out of hand, he could see the end in sight.
Mitsuki too had been forcibly ejected from Cavern Quest and had returned to the surface world.
He was currently floating in mid-air, overlooking the transformed world below.
If the majority of the surface was overrun by Sela, it would be impossible for humans to carry on with their regular activities.
Most of those who had remained on the surface would probably have turned into Sela, and those who had taken refuge in Cavern Quest and had been thrown back onto the surface were likely to become Sela immediately.
Though it was possible to eliminate the Sela and restore humanity, he anticipated it would be a very troublesome task. Moreover, Mitsuki had no intention of performing every meticulous operation himself. He found it uninteresting to adjust fine parameters of a game he'd already begun just because the starting conditions were unfavorable. he enjoyed observing everyone else experiment and stumble their way through, even in poor conditions. Such a scenario would likely create drama, making it worthwhile to watch.
However, he was willing to reset the game if the circumstances became too dull no matter how hard he tried.
The current situation was a perfect example.
At this point, it was beyond remedy. No one could turn the tide and no new dramas were likely to unfold.
The only issue was Takatou Yogiri.
As long as he lived, victims sacrificed by him wouldn't be revived even if he decided to start over. While this might be acceptable, it would continue to cast a shadow over the world Mitsuki dreamed of.
All in all, it would probably be best to cleanly and decisively reset everything.

"Alexia."
"Do you need me, Lady Mitsuki?"

As soon as Mitsuki called, Alexia immediately appeared.

"Things have gotten out of hand, so I've decided to end this. Do you know where Takatou Yogiri is?"

Mitsuki, being omnipotent, could find out for himself. But he had delegated all minor tasks to his subordinates as it was easier that way.

"He's about a hundred kilometers northwest of here, in the Meld Plains. Are you planning to confront him yourself, Lady Mitsuki?"
"Yeah, I'll meet him first."

Those who originally participated in the last quest had done so to defeat Yogiri, and Mitsuki had guided them towards this goal.
So, they might still be working to defeat Yogiri, and perhaps Mitsuki wouldn't have to lift a finger.
Mitsuki, who wasn't particularly fixated on Yogiri, thought as much.
While he could teleport, there was no need to make a special effort for a mere hundred kilometers. As Mitsuki and Alexia began their journey, they soon spotted the Meld Plains, where Yogiri and his group were likely to be.
The Meld Plains, also known as the Crystal Plains, was a treacherous place where everything turned into crystal.
Just as they were about to descend onto the Meld Plains, they noticed something abnormal in the sky.
A countless number of enormous objects filled the sky as far as the eye could see.
The spherical objects seemed to be heading towards Mitsuki.

"What is that, a space fleet? A space fortress?"
"It appears to be something of the sort."

If so, they must have come from another world. In their world, there was no space, so the concept of space-faring battleships or space fortresses serving as bases didn't exist.

"What shall we do?"
"If they need me for something, I'd be interested to know what they intend to do with such an extravagant device..."

The space fortress began to transform. It deformed to open a hole, and what appeared to be a gigantic turret was formed.
The battleships started to glow, and countless turrets were aimed at Mitsuki.
They must be weapons designed to release all the energy stored within them in one burst.
Even one of these weapons seemed to harbor enough energy to destroy a planet. If they were to release countless such energies simultaneously, they could potentially annihilate the entire world.

"These aren't weapons to be used within an atmosphere, are they?"
"Well, to begin with, there's no such thing as an atmosphere in this world."
"I've never experienced an attack of this magnitude. Maybe I should try soaking it in."
"Please refrain. It's impossible, but I don't want to see you being hit. It won't make me feel good."

Alexia spoke thus, but Mitsuki couldn't suppress his curiosity.

"What on earth happened!?"

Tomochika was confused, and so was Yogiri.
The fourth round had ended, and while they were resting in the antechamber area, lines began to distort the space unexpectedly.
Yogiri did not sense any danger in the phenomenon, but before he knew it, the surroundings had drastically changed.
Caught off guard by the sudden transformation, Yogiri was thrown into a state of chaos. However, upon closer inspection, he recognized the scene from his memories.
The grass, trees, and buildings resembling a village were all made of a crystalline substance, a strange place that he remembered passing through before.
The Meld Plains, also known as the Crystal Plains.
This was a place they passed through on their way to the royal capital after completing the trial of the tower in the canyon.
What differed from before was the absence of the net-like structure that used to cover the sky, and the presence of human-like figures, seemingly made of vines, moving around.

"Is that... Sela?"

When the Sela fell from the sky, it moved slowly like a mass of vegetation. But now, the Sela resembled a monster and seemed to have gained considerable mobility.
Upon closer inspection, they seemed to take on the shape of a human woman.
Sela was apparently the sister of the Sage Rain. It was said that she had attained immortality through a divine relic, but the details were unclear. When encountered on the Sky Continent, she was like a virus that infects and proliferates in living beings.
The Sela of the Sky Continent retained the characteristics of the original creature even after mutation, but since falling, she seemed to have begun to aggressively attack living creatures.
In other words, she was still on the move, chasing something. Looking at what she was chasing, a crystallized dog was running away.

"Isn't that the same dog from the previous world!?"

There were crystallized creatures in the Meld Plains too, but it was a desolate place.
Now, it was bustling with activity.
Countless Selas were wriggling around.
Now, Sela had something like a human face. All of them had the same face. It might be a vestige of Sela's face when she was alive.

"She's coming this way!?"

The dog was running towards them. Meaning, Selas were also heading this way.
The Sela had an expression on her face.
She was aiming for her prey. One might expect an eager, triumphant look, but what was there was torment.

"That's right... she asked to be killed..."

It was Lizley, who inherited Rain's will, who said that. When told to kill without understanding the reason, Yogiri was told he'd understand once he met Sela and he decided to put the decision on hold at that point.
Now, he felt like he understood.
Sela wasn't willingly doing this. Tormented by an immortality that could only be described as a curse, she continued to proliferate without understanding why. She probably wished to die if she could.
It might be an arbitrary assumption, but Yogiri decided to respect Rain's last wish.
Yogiri unleashed his power.
The Sela that was chasing the dog collapsed. The Selas around also began to fall. At the same time, all the Selas in the world fell.

"Didn't you say that dealing with Sela would be difficult?"
"I said it was hard to distinguish between the original Sela and the infected ones. This time I didn't distinguish. I killed them all."
'From what we've seen, it doesn't look like the infected ones retain any pre-infection consciousness. It's probably impossible to treat them and return them to their original state at this point.'
"Alright then! They attacked us, so we defeated them! That's all there is to it!"

Yogiri seemed to feel relieved, as if he had been forced to agree.

"The immediate crisis is over, but what do we do now... That station, we've been there before, right?"

Looking around, there were buildings he had seen before.
Yogiri remembered that soldiers from some country had attacked them there.

"Ah! So is this place just in front of the capital of the Manny Kingdom?"
"That seems to be the case. It means we've returned to the surface, but what should we do?"
'Isn't this situation exactly what we wished for? Our goal was to return to the surface after completing the game, after all.'
"I'm curious about what caused this, but..."
"I have a feeling we won't understand it even if we think about it."
'This is one of those situations where a tournament arc or exam arc suddenly interrupts and things get brushed aside!'
"Even if things get brushed aside, we have no choice but to proceed assuming that the underground quest is over."

Although the situation was perplexing, they didn't want to redo Cavern Quest. They had no choice but to act as if they had cleared it.

"For now, I guess we should head to the capital. It's just cold staying here."
"I think it's quite a distance from here... I don't think a train would come even if we go to the station."
"Shall we go anyway?"
"It's somewhat better than standing here—"

Just as they started to walk towards the station, a deafening roar echoed around them.
The atmosphere was vibrating. The crystallized vegetation around them was trembling, breaking apart from the sheer volume of the sound.
Yogiri looked up at the sky.
Something huge was covering the sky. Countless spherical objects were spread out all over the sky.

"Is it some sort of space fortress!?"
'Last time we saw something similar in the previous world, was it one of their kind?'

Mokomoko was likely referring to the streamline-shaped spaceship-like object they saw near the ruins of the Elf Forest.
They had exterminated them because they had shown hostile intent towards Yogiri and the others, but they didn't really understand who they were or why they had come.

"It doesn't seem like they have a clear intent to kill us, but..."

They certainly couldn't ignore this situation and relax at the station.
As they looked up at the sky, the space fortress-like object began to glow.
In the middle of the space fortress, a large turret appeared, and it seemed like light was being condensed there.

"Isn't that something like a wave-motion gun!? And... aren't those Alexia and the Great Sage over there!?"
"You've got good eyes as usual—"

While admiring, Yogiri also looked where Tomochika was pointing.
Objects that looked as tiny as a grain of beans was floating in the sky, and indeed, the turret seemed to be pointed in that direction.

"What the hell is going on!?"

There was no doubt that the target of the space fortress's attack was the Great Sage. The intent to kill was clearly directed at him.
However, the ripple effects of that hostility were reaching Yogiri and the others as well.
In Yogiri's eyes, it seemed as though their surroundings were being dyed in darkness.

"It doesn't seem to concern us, but we can't afford to get caught up in this..."

Almost at the same moment as he had this thought, Yogiri's power was activated automatically.

Comments

  1. Thanks, so close to ending the series now.

  2. Minor mistake: it should be either Mitsuki-sama or Lord Mitsuki. Not Lady Mitsuki.
Either way, thanks for the chapter.
