It's an Unreasonable Game-Like Different World! - Gokurakuten Fukura 1
GOKURAKUTEN FUKURA 1
Having finished the entrance ceremony, Gokurakuten Fukura found herself in the middle of a forest.
The new students who had been walking in front of her until just moments ago were gone, and there was no sign of the corridor leading to the school buildings.
All that was behind her was the forest, and the auditorium where the school principal had been giving a gracious speech just moments ago was nowhere to be seen.
She couldn't understand what was happening.
However, despite the incomprehension, Fukura was calm.
In life, you sometimes encounter strange and unexpected events. Her grandfather often said so, and this seemed to be one of those occasions, so it made sense to her.
Fukura picked up a stone from the ground.
In case of an unforeseen situation, the first thing to do is to secure a weapon. Anything that can be held in hand and is hard will do. This was the teaching of the ancient martial art he was learning, Dannoura style.
With a few stones in hand, Fukura looked around.
It was a peaceful, flat, and bright forest. The trees were sparse, and flowers bloomed brightly at his feet. It was a sight Fukura had never seen before.
As she was wondering what to do, she heard a faint noise.
She rounded a tree and went toward the source of the sound, where she encountered a gruesome scene.
A person was lying on the ground, with a beast on top. The beast was sticking its face in the person's stomach, making chewing noises. Judging by the amount of blood soaking the ground, the victim seemed unlikely to be alive.
The beast was unlike any creature Fukura had ever seen.
If she had to compare it to something, the closest resemblance would be a monkey. It had green skin and no hair, and long, blade-like claws on its hands that seemed ill-suited for holding things.
The beast lifted its head. Its triangular face and giant eyes on either end reminded Fukura of a praying mantis.
The beast halted its movement.
It seemed just as surprised by this situation as Fukura was. But it was Fukura who moved first.
With the beast in his sight, Fukura began to run backwards.
The Dannoura style, "Backward Running." It was the first method she was taught in the Dannoura style.
The beast started running towards Fukura. Despite being a bit slower to start, it was quickly catching up. However, Fukura wasn't just planning on escaping.
She abruptly stopped and crossed her outstretched arms in front of her.
The Dannoura style, "Reverse Swallow."
A technique that utilizes the momentum of a sudden stop to throw a pebble. The pebbles he released hit the beast's eyes.
The beast stumbled and fell. She could have run away at this point, but the Dannoura style dictates to go for the kill if possible.
Fukura picked up a stone about the size of his fist. She rotated as if to leap, stepped in, swung her arm in a large arc, and threw the stone with all her might.
The Dannoura style, "Garuda."
While the buildup to throw the pebble is lengthy and thus the use case is limited, the technique's power is immense. The stone hit its mark, caving in the beast's head. It seemed not as durable as it looked.
The beast stopped moving.
Picking up another stone, Fukura watched for any movement. After a while, the beast didn't even twitch. It seemed she had averted the crisis for now, and Fukura breathed a sigh of relief.
Yet, despite her relief, she was still unable to comprehend the situation.
Fukura moved towards the person who had been attacked.
Although her figure was horribly mutilated, she could barely discern that she was a woman. Both her hands and ankles had been severed, and her neck and stomach were slashed open, revealing her internal organs. Her entrails, possibly chewed on by the beast, were in a terrible state.
Her clothes were drenched in blood, but upon closer inspection, they were the same uniform as Fukura's. With what seemed like a blue ribbon tie, she was probably also a new student at Kyuhoumi Academy.
"I wish I could have done something for you..."
Fukura gently clasped her hands together.
Making a grave might be the right thing to do, but there was probably no time to dig a hole. The smell of blood might attract other beasts.
Fukura decided to quickly leave the scene.
That said, she didn't know where to go, so she just started walking randomly.
As she made her way through the forest, she noticed something vibrating in the pocket of her uniform.
She took out the item from her pocket. It was the smartphone issued by the school, along with a chocolate bar wrapped in paper that she had been planning to eat when she got hungry.
It was the smartphone that was vibrating. Displayed in the center of its bright white screen was a plain message.
"Welcome to Kyuhoumi Academy."
When Fukura tapped the screen, the display changed.
"Please set your status."
What appeared on the screen was not a setup for Wi-Fi or an account but something like the status setup screen of an RPG.
Fukura had no idea why the startup screen of a school-issued smartphone would look like a game, but it seemed that she couldn't use the functions of the smartphone until she finished this setup.
She was completely at a loss about her current situation, but if the smartphone worked, she might be able to figure something out. So, she decided to set up her status.
The parameters were physique, beauty, intelligence, perception, magic, and luck, all of which were initially set at 1.
There was a section for bonus points, which were probably meant to be allocated to each parameter. The bonus points totaled 29, and there was a reroll button next to the number. If she didn't like the points, she could change them.
Fukura put all her points into luck. She thought it would be better to quickly get the smartphone up and running rather than agonize over this here.
With that, the initial setup was done, and after a while, the home screen appeared.
On the dock at the bottom of the screen were icons for phone, messenger, and camera, while at the top of the home screen were apps for student ID, status, equipment, skills, and a map.
Fukura launched the phone app first, thinking that if she could make contact, the problem might be resolved.
Nothing was registered in the contact book. She tried dialing his home and the police from the dial pad, but both just kept ringing. She thought there might not be a signal, but the antenna symbol indicated a good connection.
She checked the messenger app, but there were no contacts registered there either, and no messages had arrived.
Next, Fukura launched the map app.
She thought he might be able to find out where she was, but what appeared was mostly a blank screen.
There was a blue arrow in the center of the screen, and only a bit of terrain was depicted around it.
The blue arrow was probably her current location. Brown represented the ground, green seemed to indicate trees, and this matched the surroundings. The only other elements were a symbol indicating direction and a scale for measurement.
It seemed to depict an area with a radius of about ten meters centered on the smartphone, but she had no idea where this place was.
She looked closely to see if he could find anything else, and noticed three red dots displayed behind the arrow, meaning behind Fukura.
Fukura turned around.
Behind her, there were small girls with transparent wings floating in the air. Even for Fukura, who was often considered laid-back, this was a surprise.
I'll add this to Novelupdates when I get a few more chapters knocked out, so I can get a better feel for what the hell this is about.
